Who doesn’t love a peaceful paddle out in nature, right? The birds chirping, the seals doing whatever it is seals do, and the calming serenity of the open water. Well, that’s all well and good… until Mother Nature decides to play a little prank. One kayaker set out for some much-needed “air therapy” only to be taught a valuable lesson in tidal charts, featuring a high tide, a disappearing beach, and the real MVPs of the day—weed, water, and a granola bar.
TIFU when I thought I’d take my kayak out into the bay for some exercise and “Air“ therapy. It’s my favorite thing to do in my free time—just me, the greenery, and a beautiful body of water waiting for me to explore.
I checked the wind and the weather on an app on my phone, and it looked like the perfect way to spend a Friday morning. What I didn’t do, however, was check the tide chart.
Not the smartest move, but I consider myself pretty outdoorsy, so I didn’t think it would be an issue. My brain must have glitched.

I parked, unloaded my stuff, made my way to the beach, and put my kayak in the water. I paddled out, enjoyed some ahem freTsh air, saw some birds, spotted some entertaining seals—overall, I was having a great time.
But as I made my way back, I noticed something off… The beach was basically gone.
Apparently, I had paddled out during a super high tide, and the peak was still a little while away.
Let’s just say the tide was tiding!

The road I had parked on was completely submerged, and now I’m stuck here for a few hours, at least.
All I have with me is some weed, water, and a granola bar. Wish me luck!
